Chocolate dipped strawberries are the perfect treat, especially for those special romantic occasions, such as Valentine’s Day or an anniversary. While they are easy to make from scratch, care needs to be taken to make sure that you choose all the best ingredients so that they’ll taste as delicious as they can. These chocolate dipped strawberries are excellent for parties, romantic dinners, and even for an easy and decadent dessert after your evening supper.
Choose Your Chocolate
Not every type of chocolate is created equally, so care needs to be taken that you choose one that’s right for the job. As long as the chocolate you choose is okay for baking, such as chocolate chips or baking chocolate, you can use it to dip your strawberries into. You have your choice between white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate. You can either choose one of these or make a large batch of chocolate dipped strawberries that includes an assortment. For every pint of strawberries, you’ll need about ½ cup of chocolate.
Melt the Chocolate
Your next step is to melt the chocolate and to do this you can either use your microwave or the stovetop. To melt it in the microwave, add the chocolate to a microwave safe dish. Melt for 15 seconds in the microwave on high. Stir the chocolate and heat for an additional 10 seconds if more time is needed. To melt the chocolate on the stovetop, create a double burner by adding about two inches of water to the bottom of a medium saucepan. Place a medium-sized mixing bowl over the pan and add the chocolate. Place over a burner and heat over medium heat until the chocolate is melted.
Dip the Strawberries
While the chocolate is melting, wash the strawberries and gently pat them dry with paper towels. Dip each strawberry about 2/3 of the way up into the melted chocolate and place on sheets of waxed or parchment paper. If you plan to serve these right away, refrigerate them for about 15 minutes, or until the chocolate has set. The strawberries can be stored for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
Get a Little Creative
While the concept of making chocolate dipped strawberries is fairly simple, it is possible to get a little creative. For instance, you can dip each strawberry in caramel candy coating (the kind used to make candy apples) and place them in the refrigerator until the caramel is set. At this point, you can dip the strawberries in melted chocolate and let them set as usual. You can also dip the strawberries in more than one type of chocolate. For instance, you can start by dipping a strawberry in white chocolate about ¾ of the way up and let it set in the refrigerator. You can finish the treat off by dipping it again in melted milk or dark chocolate and letting it set.
Chocolate dipped strawberries are a decadent treat that are not only delicious, but also simple to make!
