Heart-Shaped Treats to Make for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day may be about love and romance but we think it’s also about the yummy treats! Forget the jewelry and flowers, but pass the goodies please! No matter who you plan on spending Valentine’s Day with this year (significant other, family, friends, etc.), we know they’d appreciate a yummy Valentine’s Day treat. Even better- really get in the spirit and put a smile on the faces of your loved ones by making them a heart-shaped treat!

Here are a few of our favorites:

Heart-shaped pancakes with strawberries

Start the morning off right with a fun breakfast that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day. Pour the pancake batter into a heart-shaped pancake mold placed directly on the griddle. Or, you can create the design on your own using a squeeze bottle. Top the pancakes with heart-shaped strawberries (click here for an easy tutorial!) and whipped cream. Yum!

Heart-shaped sugar cookies

Heart-shaped frosted sugar cookies are a staple Valentine’s Day dessert. Make the dough using your favorite sugar cookie recipe and put the dough in the refrigerator for an hour. Once it’s chilled, roll out the dough. Be sure to use plenty of flour (on the working surface, rolling pin, and cookie cutter). Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter and make cuts as close to each other as possible. Bake the cookies and allow them to cool. Once cooled, frost and decorate the cookies however you wish! Pink and red icing, frosting, and sprinkles are excellent choices. Get creative!

Heart-shaped Rice Krispie treats

Super easy and kids love them! They also make great gifts or favors at a party. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • unsalted butter
  • 1 16-ounce bag of mini marshmallows
  • 1 18-ounce box of Rice Krispies (one cup per batch)
  • heart-shaped cookie cutter
  • 6-inch lollipop sticks
  • measuring cups
  • rainbow sugar crystals
  • milk

Directions:

  1. Melt ½ tbsp butter with 2 drops of food dye. Fold in 1 cup of mini marshmallows until they are completely melted. Add one cup of rice krispies and stir until mixed well and all the cereal is completely coated.
  2. Butter your hands and the cookie cutter.
  3. Gently press a scoop of Rice Krispies mixture into the cookie cutter. Next, push it out onto the parchment paper. You should now have 1 rice Krispie.
  4. Repeat for remaining treats and let treats cool completely. Each batch makes 3 Rice Krispies Hearts.
  5. Once treats are cooled, press lollipop sticks into the bottom of each treat.

For the icing:

  • Mix 1½ cups of powdered sugar with 2 tbsp of milk . Drizzle icing over treats. I scooped the icing into a frosting bag fitted with a #2 tip then drizzled it over the treats.

Optional: Sprinkle rainbow sugar crystals over the fresh icing.
