Store Bought Ice Cream Taste Test
Posted by Katie Straw on Jun 5, 2014
There is no limit to our love of chocolate. Chocolate covered fruit, chocolate cake, chocolate bars – we love it all. So when we got wind of Saturday being National Chocolate Ice Cream day, we came up with a way to work it into our blog, thus creating this post and our very first Strawberries.com taste test.
We went to a local supermarket and bee-lined it to the frozen section where we filled our cart with chocolate ice cream – not Double Dutch, Rocky Road, Moose Tracks, or Fudge Brownie, but good old-fashioned, plain Jane chocolate. Then we spent the afternoon sampling them (because we had to), and rating them on a variety of different factors. The results are as follows:
Breyers Chocolate Ice Cream
Presentation: Earthy, rich chocolate color
Chocolate Factor: Quite chocolaty; Rich; Fudgy
Negativity: NA
Overall:
Hood Chocolate Ice Cream
Presentation: Light brown; Cocoa-y; Reminiscent of coffee
Chocolate Factor: xxxx
Negativity: Pretty sparse; Light; Almost non-existent
Overall:
Edy’s
Presentation: Attractive brown color; Love child of Breyers and Hood.
Chocolate Factor: Slightly fudgy; Better than Hood; Unique medium-chocolate taste
Negativity: Could pump up the chocolate
Overall:
Häagen-Dazs
Presentation: Super hard; Keeps frozen; Light brown
Chocolate Factor: Creamy; Not overpowering; Not artificial tasting
Negativity: Could be slightly more chocolaty
Overall:
Talenti Double Dark Chocolate Gelato
Presentation: What it lacks in taste it makes up in the cute container
Chocolate Factor: Chocolate?
Negativity: Coffee-like taste; Why are there chunks?
Overall:
Brigham’s Chocolate Ice Cream
Presentation: Hood’s more attractive sister; Meh
Chocolate Factor: Fudgey; Convincing
Negativity: Has an artificial quality
Overall:
