How to Make Strawberry Mousse

Strawberry mousse is a classic treat that’s always a crowd pleaser. This recipe is also easy to make! The secret is to use the freshest strawberries that you can find, and to make the mousse far enough in advance to let the gelatin set. Once the mousse is ready to eat, you can either serve it as is or make one of the variations we’ve listed underneath the recipe.

Strawberry Mousse Recipe

Adapted from Taste of Home

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 1 3-ounce package strawberry gelatin
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

Directions:

Add the strawberries to a medium bowl and crush them using a potato masher or the bottom of a tall glass. Pour the juice into a liquid measuring cup and add enough water to the juice to measure ¾ cup. Add the liquid to a medium saucepan and bring it to a boil over medium heat.

Empty the packet of strawberry gelatin into a small bowl and mix it with the sugar. Pour in the boiling water and stir until both the gelatin and sugar are dissolved. Stir in the crushed strawberries and then transfer the bowl to the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to let it cool.

While the gelatin mixture is cooling, you’ll want to prepare the whipped cream. Add the whipping cream to a medium bowl and beat on medium speed until soft peaks form. Fold in the strawberry mixture, cover the bowl, and refrigerate it for at least three hours before serving to let the mousse set. Top with more whipped cream and strawberries, if desired.

Note: If you don’t want to make your own whipped cream, you can substitute the heavy whipping cream for 2 cups of prepared whipped topping. This will make the recipe even easier!
